Looking ahead to a busy May

May promises to be a busy month on the Lucas County Historical Society Museum campus as we move toward official opening for the 2010 summer season on Saturday, May 29. Here is a rundown of events scheduled on campus and elsewhere:

TUESDAY, MAY 4
The Chariton Historic Preservation Commission will present a Spring Fling to celebrate May as National Preservation Month at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, at the C.B.&Q. Freight House, corner of Auburn and Green, in Chariton. Everyone is invited to the free event.

The speakers will be LCHS board member Fred Steinbach on the topic "Mortar Matters"; Ann Diehl of Osceola on "Working Together"; Linda Howard of Centerville on "Great Places"; and Deb Storm of the Chariton Chamber of Commerce on "Our Future."

WEDNESDAY, MAY 5
City-wide cleanup day will be held in Chariton. Students from Chariton High School will be on hand to work at the museum. Volunteer board and staff members will be needed to supervise, assist and haul debris away.

MONDAY, MAY 10
The Lucas County Genealogical Society will hold its regular May meeting at 6 p.m. in the commons area of the John L. Lewis Building. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

TUESDAY, MAY 11
The regular may meeting of the Lucas County Historical Society Board of Directors will begin at 9 a.m. in the commons area of the John L. Lewis Building. Board meetings are open to the public.

SATURDAY, MAY 29
The season will begin officially at the museum as we open to the public at 1 p.m. Thereafter until late September, open hours will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily Tuesday-Saturday. Admission, as always, will be free. Tour begin in the John L. Lewis Building.

LOOKING AHEAD TO FRIDAY, JUNE 18
A Pioneer Craft Fair will begin at 6 p.m. on the museum campus featuring live demonstrations, music and free food. Stay tuned for additional details.
