Living history expo will be held Friday

Take the Great Iowa History Quiz under the watchful eye of school marm Mary Sandy in Puckerbrush School. Watch and listen as the Rev. Dennis St. Lawrence brings life in Lucas County’s old country churches alive in Otterbein. And enjoy an evening in the Stephens House with Larry and Norma LaRue and others, including cookies and lemonade on the front porch.

These are just some of the events during our “Echoes from the Past” living history expo from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, at the Lucas County Historical Society museum, 123 N. 17th St. in Chariton.

Pioneer Frank Mitchell will tell the history of our log cabin, Nurse Ilene Church will focus on medical history in the medical display area and there will be fresh peanuts from the vintage Piper’s Grocery roaster.

Clint Bingham will show off and play hand-made fiddles, Boy Scouts will make rope and free hot dogs and chips will be served.

Presentations in the school and church will run consecutively first at 5:30 p.m. and again at 6:15 p.m. with time in between to visit the other attractions and to enjoy refreshments. All are invited to attend. Admission as always will be free. Events conclude at 7 p.m.

The event will be held, rain or shine.
