Early-May cleanup day

The Lucas County Historical Society depends each spring on Chariton High School seniors, released from classes for a day to participate in community service projects related to city-wide Clean-up Day.

The Rev. Linda O'Connell, pastor of Presbyterian churches in Chariton and Lucas, arrived at the museum early May 3 with her crew of seniors who, armed with rakes and refuse bags, made quick work of winter accumulations lodged in borders, flower beds and elsewhere.

Several LCHS board members also were present to begin the job of cleaning out the barn, used over the winter as a carpentry shop as work continued on the new blacksmith shop, and to handle a variety of other maintenance-related tasks.

Our appreciation to Linda and her crew. You're great! And we appreciate the assistance.
