Jack H. Young, long-time Lucas County Historical Society president, board member and friend of us all, died unexpectedly at the age of 85 on May 11, less than a month after retiring from the board of the organization he had served in various capacities for more than 20 years. He will be missed.
Jack H. Young was born on Oct. 22, 1925, in Chariton, at the home of his parents, Mack and Leona (Twombley) Young.
He grew up in Chariton, graduated from Chariton High School and attended the University of Denver. He was a business owner in Chariton for the majority of his life and involved in a wide range of civic organizations.
On January 25, 1948, Jack was united in marriage to Frances Elizabeth Willite and to this union three daughters were born, Lynn, Jane and Kay.
Jack is survived by his wife, Frances; their three daughters, Kay Ruepke of Russell, Jane Pillsbury of Chariton and Lynn Carrico of Des Moines; his brother, Dick; and by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held May 14 at Fielding Funeral home with burial in the Chariton Cemetery.
